Compulsory to Link Aadhar with PAN from 1st July 2017: The Government has made a notice making it Compulsory to Link Aadhar with PAN from 1st July 2017. Also, Government has also introduced the new Income Tax Rules which describe that all the Citizens must have Aadhar Card at the time of Application of PAN.

Compulsory to Link Aadhar with PAN from 1st July 2017
The Revenue Department said, “Every person who has been allotted PAN as on July 1, 2017, and who in accordance with the provisions of sub-section (2) of section 139AA is required to intimate his Aadhaar number, shall intimate his Aadhaar number to the principal director general of income tax (systems) or DGIT (Systems)”.
Apart from this, it assigned principal DGIT (Systems) or DGIT (Systems) with specifying the formats and standards along with the procedure for verification of documents filed with PAN application or intimation of Aadhar number.
This new rule will be implemented from July 1, 2017, the revenue department said while revising Rule 114 of I-T Act, which is meant for the allocation of Plan.
Currently, there are 25 Crore PAN Card holders in the country while Aadhar Card is been allocated to more than 111 Crore Citizens. However, about 2.07 Crore people have linked Aadhar Card with PAN Card.
Last month, the Supreme Court has upheld the validity to an I-T provision by making Aadhar Card Compulsory for the Allotment of PAN and for filing Income Tax Returns, but it had a partial stay till the Central Board address the issue of the right to privacy.
The Central Board decided to give partial relief to all the people who want to apply for the Aadhar and for that time being, there PAN will not be canceled in order to avoid the issue of Multiple PAN Cards. So now, Central Board had made Compulsory to Link Aadhar with PAN from July 1 in order to file the Income Tax Returns.
